Fall 2009 Winter 2010 Trend: Strong Shoulders

Posted by Gabi On July - 8 - 2009

While strong shoulders can help you with tasks around the house or traveling with heavy luggage, a strong-shoulder trend with its 1980s roots will help you stay en vogue this fall. Thank God I’m a woman and I can play with my nature. There is no longer a need to utilize boring shoulder exercises as designers give us the ultimate solution – shoulder pads!

Strong shoulders is a totally wearable trend, but I would be careful because shoulder pads create a very Dynasty-style looks. For the ‘reserved’ fashionistas I would recommend strong shoulders for rather formal occasions. It is perfect for formal jackets, dresses, blouses and it can be successfully paired with fur, gloves or belts. This classical looks is promoted inter alia by BCBG Max Azria, , or Anne Valérie Hash.

Lavin, on the other hand opts for a light version – note that they used tulle instead of shoulder pads that gave the impression of strong shoulders. and had a totally different idea on how to create a strong shoulder of today. It is a very rock-inspired style, reminding me of the shiny spacesuits. I really liked a strong-shouldered bolero by Ungaro worn in a casual style and a geometric yellow dress by Jacobs, probably borrowed from the Star Trek film stage.
