In fashion there’s no winter without fur. And it doesn’t matter how many people will protest against wearing fur and how many times they will try to persuade us, fashionistas that it’s cruel and unnecessary - fur is always back for winter.
Great designers don’t deny that fur is a part of the industry and some of them have even a funny excuse to the accusation of killing animals.
The fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has defended the fur industry saying it is justified because the “beasts” fur comes from would “kill us if they could.”
Fur for Fall 2009 and Winter 2010
Fur has always been a leading trend for winter and this time it is hotter than ever. It’s not only about how many different styles of fur you can wear but also about the variety of colours that you can choose from. Designers such as Giambatista Valli and Emilio Pucci subtly dyed their fur green or blue while Dolce & Gabbana made a big impact with a crazy pink faux fur.
Types of fur for fall 2009 and winter 2010:
- Stoles
- Boleros
- Coats
Is a great choice. Christian Lacroix suggests a one made of white foxes’ tails. Derek Lam, on the other hand choses minks.
The hottest ones are elbow-length. Kenzo suggests a wonderful silver beaver fur and combines it with a colourful dress so that the outfit doesn’t get dull. Givenchy goes for a sable fur.
A must. Julien Macdonald uses a silver fox collar for his coats (j’adore the greenish one) and J. Mendel opts for minks.

People who wear fur are gross. It makes people look fat, stupid, and cruel. Fur is bulky. It looks like the wearer is trying to cover up a bad figure. Isn’t fur the fabric choice of five dollar hookers from the 80’s?
Noone wears real fur anymore unless they’re over 50 and/or rich.
Dont knock it just because you dont suit wearing it.
People in NYC–of all ages and socioeconomic background–wear fur all the time. In the grocery, in the subway, to work, to shop, everywhere…it’s so common, no one even glances. So the over 50 and rich comment of the non-NYer above (Emily) is a sign of someone who knows not of what they speak, be quiet. Silence is golden. Blanket statements that are wrong, are not. Please try again…
Now, for the rest of you. If you are interested in fur, Ebay is a great buy if you can’t afford a new one. But, furs are much cheaper this year than they have been in a long time. Wait until like March to buy a new fur–much cheaper. They are ridding themselves of inventory.
Ciao for now…
please don’t wear real fur, its very very cruel. i don’;t know of any killer beavers or even foxes… watch this and then decide but watch it first, ignorance is not an excuse, nor is shying away form what is involved.
