Ferragamo - as a shoe designer – dedicated his life on discovering the secret of perfect-fitted shoes. He even studied human anatomy in US in order to find out that it’s all about the distribution of the body’s weight over the joints of the foot. After his death in 1960, his wife Wanda took over the running of the business and expanded its operations to include eyewear, perfume, belts, scarves, bags, watches, and a ready to wear clothing line.

Salvatore Ferragamo Spring Summer 2009 Milan Ready To Wear Salvatore Ferragamo fashion house is known for their innovations including wedge heel, shell-shaped sole, ‘invisible’ sandal, metal heels and soles, the 18-carat gold sandal, sock-shoe, sculpture heels, gloved arch shoe created for the Maharani of Cooch Behar in 1938, metal-reinforced stiletto heels that were made famous by Marilyn Monroe, the ‘Gancino’ decoration, ‘Vara’ patent ballet pump, Salvatore bag and the use of patchwork.

The spring summer 2009 collection, created by Cristina Ortiz is based on high quality materials and comfortable clothes which are mostly pretty baggy. Vast majority of clothes was made in white, green, grey and red palette. Not only clothes are oversized, but also bags - either slung across the body or kept in hand, also she suggests small clutches for silky evening gowns. Ortiz accessorizes every outfit with wedge sandals.

Salvatore Ferragamo Spring Summer 2009 Milan Ready To Wear There are also halter neck dresses, lots of silk, no jewellery at all, asymmetrical sleeves, romper suits and fabulous belts, accentuating waist. I loved the white, folded, above the knee dress and oversized trousers (another trend ‘borrowed’ from the fall 2008 winter 2009 season). There was also one surprising see-through gown with a siberian tiger printed on it and a one reminding me of a fancy night robe worn by the women of Rome or Greece. I also loved the suits, a red one perfect for formal occassions, paired with a small leather belt and a white one – from the bottom to the top, consisting of white shirt, oversized trousers and a tie.
